AWAKENING WITH PERFECT EDUCATION
_ A P ANAND
If we look into our hoary past and
compare it with the present niggling days, we are passing through, we are
shocked and stunned to find the wide difference and feel as if someone has
yanked the carpet from under us. Our country is riddled with many problems
which have blurred our some past achievements/ progress, especially in
education system. At a grass-root level the parents are responsible for the
degradation of children in education, morals and ethics etc. Instead of
character building, disciplining, infusing dedication and making purposeful
life of the children, we have started pampering them, allow them to vie with
others and meet their all undesired wants to pursue our own activities
unhampered. Unfortunately, the parents are themselves not disciplined. The
children have lost the oomph to do hard work for advancement. The parents
should have watchful eyes on the activities of children. Possession of
certificates and degrees etc. are mere documents or scrap papers which can,
nowadays, be purchased or faked by foul means. The sham knowledge will derail
life and disorient the right path. Education should never be commercialized.
One’s latent qualities will bloom by themselves and flourish and transform
through real education. Knowledge is power and a tool for refinement and the
proper grooming of children is the key to achieve a goal. At least basic
education should be made compulsory and free of cost.
Proper education brings with it not
only awakening but morals, ethics and diligence also. We should not forget the
propriety of Lord Rama and the examples set by him.
Fie on us if we forget the events and
smashing achievements of our past eras and do not learn lessons from the
education system of those days. Indian history is replete with many
achievements during Vedic period like astronomy, knowledge of clairvoyance, use
of “ Uddan Khattola” (flying vehicle) and discus, use of complicated weapons
and missiles in Mahabharata war. Also narration of war events at Kurukshetra
and dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna and showing cosmic forms by the
Lord to prove His might , to King Dhrtarashtra (blind and of Kaurva clan) by
his confident minister, Sanjay, through his third divine eye due to knowledge
gained through Maharishi Ved Vyasa, sitting miles away from the battlefield. It
was when mobiles, computers, telephones, internet and satellites (communication
technologies) were not in use as spawned today. Also during Vedic period,
people were brainy and the calculators were not in use for solving mathematical
problems. Our old ways of remembrance sharpen our intellect and power of
retention.
Unfortunately, nowadays the religions
are many which, instead of helping us, have divided us while spirituality can
only bond us, even across the borders and without any discrimination.
Spirituality and nationalism in educational curriculum will themselves take
care of our many ills. We should be careful and vigilant from those elements
who throw us on wrong paths, fan communal disharmony and make our life
miserable and strewn with debacles like depression and suicides on frivolous grounds
which are surging these days as knowledge of Truth, self and God realization
and real purpose of our life are devoid. Also morals, ethics and sharp and firm
character are missing. We should make best use of present time to take care of
future. There should be off and on interactions between teachers, taught and
the parents for guidance, not coercing, to hone the academic career and
behavioural temperament and to restore the confidence of the students to become
worthy citizens. Some –times, the situation demands callousness.
Ignorance creates hatred and
imbalances in every respect. We hear many property and dowry disputes leading
even to murder of someone. The ignorant commit theft to meet their unwanted
desires. Sometimes, we hear rattling stories between parents and children which
disturb our minds very badly. If we do not nip the fault at bud and take
corrective measures, the children are afflicted with weak character and suffer
from many neurological disorders, irrational fears, anxiety and frustration.
Problems are galore with devastating effects
due to illiteracy, undulation or ignorance like child marriage, child abuse,
sex discrimination and sex selection test etc. Besides, untouchability, caste
system and its discrimination, neglecting disadvantaged and underprivileged children
and their education and also senior citizens who commit suicide when depression
triggers them should be addressed immediately. We can learn great lessons from
self-improvement books and by reading life histories of successful persons.
Please remember that the two rich and poor real friends like Lord Krishna and
Sudama had no sort of adverse feelings between them. We should abort/ impair,
tactfully, the diabolic and daring plans of ignorant and not waste time in
minor squabbles. Purity of mind, hard work and sincerity pave the way to settle
many problems. One should abstain from playing dirty games of politics.
In the light of above there is a dire need to revive/ improve upon the present
education system. Education is unworthy if there is no loyalty and respect for
parents, teachers and elderly persons. The
educated person will widen the scope of education and awakening to remove
ignorance through all possible means with his own efforts and that of
philanthropists. He will give away his extra wealth generously to the poor and
needy as he believes that nothing belongs to him and will never go with him.
Money earned is a gift from God and should be utilized for the upliftment of
society. He will not use foul means for his gains and may sacrifice his own
interest for the sake of others. He will not pass-on the bucks to others which
is not a good instinct. He will never use vitriolic (hostile) remarks against
anyone and will prefer to lead life of austerity. He will avoid anger which
overtakes the wisdom and burns him completely turning to ashes. He will not
believe in false beliefs/ superstitions, myths and phobias. Adjustment,
tolerance, forgiveness, let-go and patience are the key words for him to
socialize with others. Also interacting with students of other institutions for
exchange of views and gaining exhaustive knowledge are the art of living and to
harmonize. He will exercise restraint in delicate matters and try best to
rekindle the blazing emotions. He will take decisions judiciously and avoid
attending dance bars, use of alcohol and tobacco etc. which corrupt the young
minds lest he is caught up in dreadful diseases like HIV/ AIDS and addiction
etc. In case the education is job oriented and value based, it will be good for
his livelihood and for the entire nation. The children, in particular, should
be educated and made aware about the dire need and inculcate the habit of
saving energy, water and environment. A real spiritualistic student will not
kill animals and birds for his hunger as it is an act of cruelty/ violence and
also to use them for sports to extract a little pleasure. The transformed
student will rise to any occasion and will be very helpful for the society
which is of paramount necessity.
Blending spirituality with education
act like borax to gold while heating in a crucible for refinement and to make
one humble, righteous, truthful and calm leading to success. Piousness, service
and sanctity of education and its principles should be upper most in our minds
to expect progress in real sense. With aforesaid qualities one’s endurance
limit increases. One gets respect and earns many plaudits.
Spirituality will change your
mind-set, all for the welfare of Lord’s creation including faith, respect and
obedience for the deserved. Unfortunately, our ego and obstinacy have pushed us
to abyss state. Even your little bit leaning towards Lord will compel Him to
grant you grace with some grace-marks and may add many feathers to your cap.
All is up to you to become an infallible/ and
multi-faceted personality. After passing through many arduous tests in blazing
heat and attaining spiritual status one becomes human in real sense. He will
become flexible like a tortoise and will change and adjust himself according to
the prevailing situations/ circumstances. He/ she will ultimately become an
anthropomorphic person (attributing human and character of god). If due to
God’s grace you have achieved high position and power, don’t be drowned in it
and misuse it against any poor or helpless person otherwise you will heavily
come under the debris of curses haunting you forever and never to escape. This
is also like digging of one’s own grave or entombing during life time. For
one’s virtues he will have faith in Lord and perseverance like an ardent
devotee (of Lord Narayana), Prahalada who suffered a lot at the hands of his
own father, Hirnakapisu as he defied his wishes/ orders.
Besides, due to refinement he will start
liking what he used to hate earlier. He will remain stabilized in sorrows and
pleasures, ups and downs. His smiles will turn to flowers on the paths he
treads. He will triumph and carve a niche in society if he is of healthy mind
and strong spirits of devotion to work
(workaholic). He will not burden the society in any way. He will unveil the
truth everywhere by removing the shield of ignorance and emerge a path-breaker
and dazzle with numerous qualities. His all activities will become mind-blowing
and he will become a man of many shades to his personality. He will invigorate
relations and friendship for harmony and peace. Please be watchful otherwise,
due to your own negligence, someone will mislead and supplant (oust) you from
right path and you will lead sucked life or irretrievable breakdown.
