BURGEONING YOUNGER GENERATION OF INDIA

BURGEONING YOUNGER GENERATION OF INDIA
                                                                                                                  _ A P ANAND
Day in and day out we hear the stunning, nerve wrenching/ soul stirring news of suicides, strangling, cold-blooded murders and violence between parents and children or students and teachers or youngsters and public. When we delve deeper and probe for the root causes we conclude that this nauseating disease of rift, estranged relations and widening gap of relations is increasing due to lack of proper education, unlimited desire and indiscipline of parents themselves and the mentors as well especially during the formative period of children. We consider ourselves inferior and think it a taboo to share the problems and their solutions with children, may be to avoid or escape ourselves unless they become molehill. In the olden days nothing was kept in concealment between the teacher and taught and priest and devotees. Nowadays where have the educational institutions like “Sandipney Saadnalyas” gone? India was once called a “Golden Sparrow” and a seat of learning, abode of gods, followers of moral, ethics, rich heritage and culture. Arjuna said in Bhagavad Gita (40/I) that when virtuous tradition is lost, vices take hold of entire race. The precarious condition of our country is before us due to our own faults. Our country is under the sway of sulking wave and is full of uncertainties. We, ourselves weave the warp and woof of life’s fabric. If the foundation is strong and sturdy the building of our life will sustain all sorts of upheavals and impacts to become incredible and endearing. There is an urgent need of educational reforms giving emphasis on relationships, love, respect, morals and humanity to uplift the country from the present morass. The youngsters are the crown jewels of the country.

World population has already crossed the figure of seven billions and God knows as to how many more mouths are born every day to feed. India is a country where the number of younger people are more than any other country but, unfortunately, they are mostly unproductive in spite of the fact that there is a large scope of reforms to make life useful and purposeful. Also keeping young minds empty will create devil’s mind with disastrous effects. The education imparted to them should be job-oriented. Also people want quick-fixes to become rich by adopting many foul methods without education, sincerity and hard work. This attitude has degraded our life and character.

The foundation of our life is laid by our parents. Also the teachers/ mentors and society are equally responsible for the children, knowing well the art of living and values of life. They should check and control the behavior, character and sincerity of children especially in their formative years. Their anger and greed will boil out to violence, turn them to desperados (reckless criminals) and ultimately decimate them if not controlled. They should never be pampered, made greedy and debauchee.

We often boast, cherish and are overwhelmed that our country belongs to young, energetic, virile bursting with vigour and craggy looks, burly and ebullition body, what to say of this country! It is only an uppity at present stage. If we don’t channelize their knowledge, virtues and strength in a useful way in different segments they will become difficult people to control and deal.

The teachers should be need based and the subjects of English, mathematics and science should not be ignored in school curriculum as we have to compete with the world. Proper education is very necessary for the female students to excel in life. Though sexual education is a taboo subject in our country still the situation demands to impart training/ knowledge of sexual abuse and its horrors/ consequences like HIV/ AIDS and other infectious diseases. The gun culture should also be stopped. The teachers should also see that the students need not lose confidence which boosts will-power. The students should be inquisitive with balanced mind. It is only the knowledge of spirituality which can make us/ younger generation placid/ calm. The younger generation should be made aware about the necessity of co-operation, understanding, faith and love during the entire married life instead of breaking the sacred nuptial relations later on flimsy grounds and unfounded reasons. They should be discouraged for child-marriage as well. They should also avoid dirty politics.

The parents, mentors and saints can transform the young minds to wisdom and personalities of high caliber. It is the proper education which can bring us from ignorance to truth. The teachers should themselves, first, receive training for restraint, tact, behavior, suppression of anger and value of relations for teaching the students.

Diffusion of science/ education and spirituality will retard many problems and awaken many minds. In case jobs are provided to all as per their talents it will satisfy their financial hunger and check unrest. Education should, therefore, be made compulsory up to certain level and there should be no reserved quota for anyone but be based on merits only. People should be advised to use country made goods to encourage employment.

India is an agricultural based country. Endeavour should be made to expand our base of employment related to this field apart from others. It is of no use if the students garner degrees, diplomas and certificates etc. not of their interest and find no jobs later on. As said above, there is a lot of scope of employment in different fields not at all or very less exploited, so far. To name some important ones, these are: (1) We have got fertile land with many rivers brimming with water to meet the need of our drinking, irrigation, production of electricity and transportation etc. (2) Production of fruit juices, agricultural and processing food industry. (3) Dairy products. (4) Solar, nuclear and wind energy. (5) Oil, gas and mineral exploration. (6) Tourism: There being many temples, other religious places, places of pilgrimage, hill stations, monuments of golden era (heritage sites) and vast coast line. Hotel management and hotels with resorts are badly needed. This will benefit air industry also. (7) Information and telecommunication technology. (8) Technical institutions for all trades. (9) Electronics and electrical goods. (10) TV, arts and film industry. (11) Sports and games industry. (12) Space research. (13) Oceanography. (14) Defence. (15) Research and development. (16) Medical and health care including pharmaceutical industry. (17) Environment and water conservation. (18) Construction of infrastructure. (19) Cloth mills. (20) Rural schemes. All these industries and many more will not only provide employment to people but will earn handsome foreign exchange as well.

Younger generation is an asset of the nation and if they are contented and possess ethical principles, they will not like to be branded as corrupt lot. With marvelous nature and principles they will remain faithful and respectful to their country, teachers, parents, elders and will receive blessings to be successful in life. They will consume pure, fresh and nutritious food for the sake of their health and to pep up their mood. They will avoid taking alcohol, non-vegetarian food and tobacco products.

When these young high professionals do not get requisite jobs they turn tables against the government, parents and society in desperation and are daggers drawn. They may join terrorist outfits, vandalize and damage everything. Also they may join rave parties in beer bars and pop culture, wear skimpy dresses, instead of conservative ones, for undue attraction in desperation to puff off their problems and may be addicted to drug/ smack and fast food/ junk food cultures etc. They may go to the extent of even selling their own body organs or the life of their own near and dear ones to meet their expenses. They may provoke the modesty of women for the sake of fun, grapple with the worst results of early marriage or come in the clutches of sexual diseases. The government and the industrialists should be very careful in providing them need based jobs and not let them feel the sense of deprivation. The parents should be watchful that their children don’t fall in the trap of extravagant life style. If no timely attention is paid, the situation may lead to an ugly one between the haves and have-nots. As per press report dated Aug.01, 2012 based on the Gallup (USA) survey conducted in 2011 it is said that 52 % of Indians are pessimistic about job market.

Have we ever thought as to why our men who remain ordinary citizens, even if they are talented, and are not recognized in their own country shine, excel, do marvelous jobs abroad and contribute a lot? It is only the change of environment, mind-set and attitude, freely available to exploit, which makes the difference. At the same time one derives happiness if one earns money due to hard work and sincerity. It is admitted that if the gardener is well versed in his job, the flowers of his garden will definitely smile, bow to all visitors, exude and spread fragrance everywhere. So is the case of our youngsters if their mentors are themselves disciplined and perfect at their work, behavior and relations. We have to quaff the bitter draught to satiate the raging and violent inferno of discontentment inside us to enjoy sweetness later on. Can’t we take U turn, look at our brilliant past, blend it with our present achievements, root out the tares / weeds and put it on the proper track once again? Hope, courage, determination and quick actions are the only answers.
