CONTRITION AND ATONEMENT
(FOR SMOOTH LIFE)
_ A P ANAND
We are the embodiments of errors. It is also said and believed that to err is human and to forgive is Divine. We are not made up of characters but we make our own characters. It is not possible to achieve well polished character without total surrender to Lord and walk His talk. Besides, one should apply, to forehead, the paw-dust of elders and enlightened divine souls/ savants and luminaries to receive grace. We should also kneel down to the hilt before them in respect. It is also said that man is never wrong but he may go astray from his right deeds and words. Whatever we get it is in return of our own actions. The answer or antidote to all our problems is to contrite, remorse and atonement of our evils or misdeeds. A non-contrite person will have wryly and disgraceful posture, drowning him to the lowest ebb.
A person who does not contrite requires a great courage to break the ice. His sins will cause severe roller-coasting life with sudden heavy jerks to devour his progress. Ego and obstinancy are the main obstacles coming on his way. If one is living in a glass-house he is not supposed to throw stones on others as it is an evil and he should refrain from it. Lord is prying on our all activities.
Life always exists in the midst of birth and death. We can better it with our resolve through thoughts and deeds. Truth, resolution, determination and faith etc. along with our attunement/ devotion to God can absolve our many intricate problems. We cannot reach God without decimating our ego and many unwanted desires. One can attain peace after controlling the opposing pulls of wants and anger. We can experience peace only when we deliver love in return of enmity. The hardcore criminal and arsonist must reform himself through atonement at the earliest possible to lead smooth life and never plan a plot to subvert someone’s peace. God has created us to share our love and brotherhood with others and expiate and singe our sins, past and present. The word “sorry’ and act of submission serve as dousing the dazzling embers of anger and hatred. One should be magnanimous towards one’s rivals to expiate the sins. One should supplicate the Lord for complete removal of his past sins and assure Him firmly to eschew the same in future from the depth of his heart and by pouring out his miseries before Him with thunderous voice and incessant

welling of tears like a stream in acute pain and sincerity. It is not possible to get rid of his clinging and torturing worries without repenting and assuring Lord. One should, while taking vows for refinement, pray God to purge his evil dross and ferry him across the raging ocean of life peacefully and safely.
When your mind changes for the betterment, your character will also change accordingly. Real and enlightening knowledge makes your heart pure and sober and results in non-violence also. One who keeps himself under control and balanced is a person of propriety. He remains happy and vigorous. The one who is sincere in resolve, Holy Spirit will take care and rescue him from his all adversities. His faith in Lord will fructify like foliage.
The sins are like a fodder to the cannon for our life which devour our palpable psychological sentiments. To atone sins, people opt many paths like giving donations in cash or kind to the deserving people, imparting free education, performing ‘havanas’ (sacrificial fire), selfless service, undertaking pilgrimage to holy places etc. Some people, in repentance and atonement of sins, touch their ear-lobes and anus with their hands as this act is considered as self-admonishment. Some grovel on ground and go to holy places and some try to drive the evil through exorcise or perform some other antics. If we don’t wash away our sins our valuable energy will be sapped. These sins/ faults are like sand-blockades obstructing our way in life which should be removed at any cost.
If you repeat your sins/ mistakes even after repenting/ confession or taking a vow before God or take a U-turn/ volte face or subterfuge it will construe to calling a death-knell for self. Also such a person will be punished heavily by God through His hidden and open onslaughts. He should always remain sincere in taking righteous path which will aid in springing up his accomplishments in life. This way he will become Lord’s chosen one and draw Him closer to him. He (God) will become his refuge under all circumstances. If he is not an apologetic he will carry forward his sins as a debit account to the next life. If one is adding colours to someone’s life he is doing real sacred service otherwise one’s life is hellish and purposeless. Those who pray God daily and beseech for His favours create peace and happiness in family and society. This way we can pacify our arteries also. Lord has granted us life and crafted us wonderfully. We should be thankful to Him forever. Lord will pay heed to

our miseries and purify our soul. You are again reminded that you cannot trick the Lord. He is always prying on you and is omniscient. You are under His constant surveillance and thus He need not apply the rule of “Audi Alteram Partem” (let the other side be heard) to listen to all the warring parties to know the truth. He will punish the culprit, without fail, sooner or later.
While atoning your sins you hone your palpable psychological sentiments, skills and abilities as well. Atonement helps in stress management and tangle-free life. You will feel lightly after atonement of sins as one feels on taking a shower of cold bath.
