Craze and its forces

                                       CRAZE AND ITS FORCES
                                            (AN EVIL WITHIN)
                                                                                      _ A P ANAND
Man thinks that with his scientific knowledge and technology everything is under his beck and call and command to bring it at his door-step. No doubt that science has taken many strides but still we are eluding peace, happiness, love and control of birth and death which is God’s grace and under His domain solely depending upon our ‘karmas’ (deeds) , good or bad. It is the craving which has created imbroglio and impasse in our life which was more peaceful in the yester years. It is proved, beyond doubt, that love begets love and breeds when it is sacred and its excited romantic magnetic forces are harnessed to attract each other and the dulcet atmosphere is pitched. Love also acts like an oar which helps us in redeeming our life boat. It is a key for aspiring for oneness in the whole world.

In fact, the craze is never ending and thus it is labeled as drowning desires and not the crowning ones. The adage says, “Money makes the mare go”. It means that we can quench the thirst of any desire with the help of money but it also creates many undesired elements in our life like excessive cravings, fury and rift/ tiff etc. if we do not use it diligently. It also causes avarice (greed for gain) which is disastrous.

Some may advocate that life is barren, without ambitions, for advancement but to what extent? There should be some limit, a barrier and a full stop somewhere otherwise there is no end of desires which add disappointment only and we will run amok directionless.

Cravings and desires breed selfishness, discontent, loss of sleep, restlessness/ anxiety/ impatience, greed, plundering, theft, ego, attachment, fondness, splurging money, sin, depravity, cruelty, aggressiveness, hatred, malice, loss of concentration, loss of discriminating power, carelessness, passion, glutton, binge, indigestion, illicit sex, evil design, corruption, bribery, hatred, crime, mental ailments, vie endlessly with others, luxurious life, going beyond one’s financial limits, subterfuge, degradation of will power and senses etc.

Crazy person weaves a net of self-trappings around him. He is not a stainless person and impinges upon the rights and possessions of others. He suffers due to callousness, erratic life style and indolence. He will become a voluptuous (fond of luxury and sensual pleasures) person. He is devoid of spirituality and does not know and feel the sacred love and sincere cravings of Mira Bai, Prahlad, Tulsidas and Hanuman etc. for the Lord. Also he does not feel about the fate of elephant named as Gajendra who called out the Lord during distress when he was caught by an alligator and was saved due to his total surrender to God. In the same way Lord Krishna saved the modesty of Darupadi when she was being paraded, disrobed/ denuded in the court.

In spite of our acquiring more and more comforts through gadgets and machines etc. our debility (physical weakness) is increasing and mental power decreasing day by day. The ugly diseases are gripping us and our money power is making us lazy and spendthrift.

Happiness and peace can be attained through contentment and calming our mind but not with material possession.

To highlight and further elucidate the subject matter the author deems it fit and necessary to invoke the following quotations of few erudite:
1)      The covetous (desiring others’ things) man pines in plenty, like Tantalus (Greek mythology) up to the chin in water and yet thirsty…..Thomas Adams.
2)      There is no fire like passion, there is no shark like hatred, there is no snare like folly, there is no torrent like greed…..Buddha.
3)      Put not your trust in money, but put your money in trust…..Oliver Wendell Holmes.
4)      He who cannot resist the temptation is not a man…..Horace Mann.

Man craves to accumulate so many things for his pleasure in life but leaves all of them behind in this world. The panacea for all the evils of discontent lies in the principles of spirituality. One should control/ subjugate one’s senses so that the unwarranted and frenzy crazes remain in the custody of Lord by totally surrendering to Him. He is our Refuge

                                                                                                                                                               (3)
(Haven) to exalt us to new heights. On the contrary we may be ditched by the fangs of cravings. If one has no cravings to attune with God he cannot do penance and sacrifices. Some pray God to meet their endless desires only during misfortunes/ adversities which is not proper. We should not allow our craze to become an explosive keg.We should also keep in mind that “all that glitters is not gold” and these crazes act as a maze when we are heavily addicted. We require purity of heart and mind to reach God. All sorts of cravings will vanish the moment we think about death occurring any moment and under any circumstances without carrying anything with us.

The image of crazy and greedy person will, ultimately, be sullied as these traits will trample and smother (suffocate and suppress) his life. Such a person should be transformed, conditioned and his energy channelized for the welfare of his own- self and society by the learned souls. Someone has rightly said: “The flame/candle has appeared in the congregation for the moth to die on it, love is meant in the world to die for someone for a sacred cause.” Please nurture austerity, balanced and moderated life for attaining happiness and peace. Amen!
